Optical Sensing and Imaging of Oxygen and pH Using Metal-Lig

Following an introduction into fluorescent sensing of the physiologically highly important species oxygen, pH, and H2O2, we will discuss how sensor materials can be manufactured from molecular probes (such as metal-ligand complexes) and appropriate host polymers. Examples will then be presented of planar sensor film, of fiber optic sensors for these species and for temperature, and how planar sensor films ("paints") can be imaged. Typical examples will then be given on the application of such sensors in enzymatic biosensors, in bioassays in general, and in cellular imaging. A final section will discuss new nanomaterial-based sensors, in particular carbon dots and lanthanide-based upconversion nanoparticles which are capable of converting near-IR (laser) light into visible light.
 
Otto S. Wolfbeis is a Professor of Analytical and Interface Chemistry at the University of Regensburg. His research focuses on optical (fiber) chemical sensors, fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging, on fluorescent probes and labels, and on luminescent nanomaterials. He has published >500 articles and reviews, and these have been cited >17,000 times. His h-index is 64. Prof. Wolfbeis was the Founding Editor of the Springer Series on Fluorescence and the Springer Series on Chemical Sensors and Biosensors, is the Editor-in-Chief of Microchim.
